Amish CountryTV's whole consumerist approach is kind of turning me off about Amish country.
ReplyDeleteIt kind of looks as though from this site that Amish Country is nothing more than a tourist trap, and not really the real thing.
People like the goodies and souvenirs, but, people don't visit Amish country only for that. They visit for the landscape and to see how their ancestors lived.
When I visited Lancaster I was disappointed to the extent that some Amish are greedy, money hungry, and seem avoid of their religion, culture, and traditions, just to make a few bucks.
There is nothing wrong with the Amish making a buck off tourist interested in their culture, but, some Amish are making a living off of people interested in their culture when those same Amish bearly hold onto even the most cheerished part of Amish culture.
Basically there are some Amish who're only Amish because it makes money, they care nothing about being Amish, only about how much money they can make off tourist.
